A Message from our President...
One of the thoughts for the day from the “Upper Room” this year was , “Who are my heroes?” When we think about this it is usually those people who have had the most influence on our lives that come to mind.
At this time, my heroes are each of you in the Asbury District UMW. When I see how you seem to always be able to work through the biggest challenges and still make your goals, I am amazed. There are still many challenges before we can put this fiscal year 2009 to bed on Annual Day and begin plans for 2010. I ask each church unit officer to please get your reports in to District on time, so we may in turn get the consolidated reports in to Conference on time.
I would also ask that each church unit look at their pledge for the year 2009. I’m sure some of you could probably afford to send in more funds while others cannot. In order for us to make our budget, some sacrificial giving.
There are a number of events remaining for 2009. On Sunday, September 13th at 2:00PM, we will be meeting for Annual Day at Christ UMW.
Then on Saturday, September 19th at 8:45 we will be meeting at Milan First Church for Conference Annual Day . Each Church Unit is requested to bring at least one “Cleaning Bucket” (formerly known as Flood Buckets) to the Milan Church. There will be a truck there to pick them up. The Asbury District Officers are requested to bring bite size muffins,
bite size bagels and cream cheese.
The District Officer
Training for Asbury Churches Unit Officers will be on September 24th at
Good Shepherd UMC, 6050 Hwy 70, Memphis. Please try to make all these
events. Keep up the good works. I hope to thank each of you for being
“my heroes.

From the Vice President...
Can you believe United
Methodist Women have been meeting annually for 37 years? Sunday,
September 13, 2009 mark our 37th Annual Meeting. Christ
United Methodist Church will host our meeting in Wilson Chapel
at 2:00 p.m. You will want to be present to hear about
all of the things you have accomplished during the year - Candle Burning,
Mission Studies, Mission Today, Reading Program, Certificates of Giving
and the CMEE Attendance Plaque. We have really been busy and having fun.
The unit that has the largest attendance percentage that day will be awarded
the Attendance Excellence Banner to keep until 2010. There will be a display
of scrapbooks for viewing. I know some of you have done a great job with
these scrapbooks.
Members that we have lost during the year will be remembered in a Memorial
Service during the program. Mary Mooney, our Memphis Conference President,
will be our speaker "Telling Our Story". We are not asking that
you bring anything to our meeting, but we are requesting that all units
in the Memphis conference bring "Mission Buckets" to the Conference
Annual Meeting on Saturday, September 19. This
year the
conference will be
meeting at Milan First United Methodist Church. You need
to make a reservation for this meeting. (form here
from The Clarion).
Put October 24 on your calendar for our District
Officer Training. This will be at Good Shepherd Church.
Another date to calendar is Assembly April 30-May 2, 2010 in St.
Louis, Missouri. You will hear more about this at Annual Day.
There is a discount for early registration, and we will have a bus from
Memphis at a good rate for those that do not want to drive. For members
that are getting very computer savvy, you can check out the Assembly web
page and also on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
I look forward to seeing you on the 13th for a terrific program with lots
of good music and a time for fellowship after the program.
Love,
Yvonne McCrary
Vice President
P. S. If you don't have a representative attending from
your unit, please make arrangements for someone to pick up your unit's
packet. Postage has gotten too much for our budget to mail these.
